Reading comprehension can be a struggle for all readers, it transcends ability levels and age, however without it, a reader is wasting time reading only words and missing out on all the meaning the text has to offer.
— The Reading Gal

Comprehension is the most common difficulty among readers.  Therefore the key to making the text easier to understand is by using accurate, pin-pointed practice and strategies to help along the comprehension journey from start to finish.

I will work with the reader to build a rapport, hear his or interests and discuss problems they are having with reading comprehension.  I will teach them steps to employ before, during and after reading to help them stay focused on the reading, and know exactly when to remember information from the text.  It is common that younger readers don't always know what is important to remember from their reading, so they actually try to remember everything.  Can you imagine the pressure of having to remember everything you read because you don't know what to keep and what to let go?  I will help ease the anxiety and stress that many readers feel by providing them with tools and strategies to retain important information from the text.

When I was in middle school, I was in reading support class because I had severe trouble with comprehension.  I could read the words, but I had no idea what I read.  Much to my dismay, I would reread pages over and over again to try to catch on to what I was reading, but often without success.  So, I hated to read.  It was a chore, it was laborious, and it was something that made me feel insecure and frustrated.  Eventually, I was taught the skills necessary to improve my reading comprehension, and by high school, I was doing significantly better.  My goal is for your reader to learn these skills much quicker than I did, so they no longer feel insecure and frustrated by reading.  I want your reader to feel confident that they know what was important from the text, and can remember it long enough to write or talk about it with their peers or in their assignments.
